Government formally appoints new vice-chancellor of Umeå University

Earlier today, the Government of Sweden appointed Lena Gustafsson as the next Vice-Chancellor of Umeå University. Gustafsson is a Professor of Biotechnology at Chalmers University of Technology and Deputy Director General at Vinnova (The Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems).
Lena Gustafsson's term as Vice-Chancellor runs from 1 June 2010 to 30 June 2016.
The announcement was made by the Ministry of Education and Research.
Maud Olofsson, Minister for Enterprise and Energy, and Deputy Prime Minister, commented on the formal appointment.
"Lena Gustafsson has extensive experience from the national level, has a strong knowledge of innovation systems, and will be able to continue the successful work that current Vice-Chancellor Göran Sandberg started. High quality research is the foundation for us to create jobs and growth," said Olofsson.
Lena Gustafsson was selected by the University Board in March to be the next Vice-Chancellor. Read the press release
