Green winter in Ålidhem district of Umeå

NEWS On Thursday 13 January, students at the Umeå Institute of Design will present their ideas for an accessible and green winter garden area in Ålidhem, a city district of Umeå.

Students in the bachelor’s programme in urban and regional planning at at Umeå University have worked for 10 weeks on a project at Umeå Institute of Design in together with the municipal housing company Bostaden. In this project, the students worked on planning for a winter garden conservatory to be built in the the Geografigränd block in the Ålidhem district. The students have conducted workshops with residents in Ålidhem and other interested individuals. Based on their needs and wishes, the students have developed innovative and creative ideas for the winter garden can be designed to best meet the area's needs.

The results will be presented on the 13th of January and their proposals include everything from poetry slams and exhibitions to wine tastings and theme parties. A common theme to all the proposal ideas is that they are based on meetings, social inclusion and activities to promote creativity.
