Honorary doctors in the fields of Infection Biology and Climate Change

NEWS The Faculty of Medicine has appointed two honorary doctors for 2011: Professor Roland Benz, Germany, and professor Anthony McMichael, Australia.

Roland Benz (top picture) is a professor of biotechnology at the School of Engineering & Science (SES) in Bremen, Germany, and member of the Rudolf Wirchow Center, University of Würzburg. He has since the early 1990s been an active partner to several of the research groups within the Strong Research Environment of Infection Biologyat Umeå University. 

Anthony McMichael (below) is a National Research Fellow at Australian National University, Canberra, and a pioneer expert on the health impacts of climate change. In 1993—2006 he headed the expert group in that area under the United Nations Panel of Climate Change IPCC. He is a partner and board member to the climate change research group in the Umeå University Strong Research Environment of Global Health. 

They will receive their honorary doctorships at the Umeå University Annual Celebration ceremony, Saturday 22 October 2011.
