Hundreds of foreign students to arrive at Umeå University
NEWS
On Monday 20 January, Umeå University welcomes its new arriving students from abroad. 250 exchange students from 36 countries are arriving for the spring 2014 term start. In addition, 835 students outside of exchange agreements will begin studying courses and degree programmes.
Umeå University kicks off its Orientation Course on Monday 20 January, which is intended to help new international students learn about what it's like to study and live in Sweden.
Another service provided for foreign students is the social programme known as the Buddy Programme. It includes activities that take place throughout the entire year to help them intergrate and adapt to life in Umeå.
"The Buddy Programme helps students to cope in their new environment and allows them to discover Sweden and its culture, says programme coordinator Jennifer Börresson. "They also receive a warm welcome by Swedish students and an insight into what Umeå has to offer."
Umeå University was ranked last year as number one in Sweden and number three in Europe in the student satisfaction survey International Student Barometer. The survey was responded by international students from 193 universities around the world.
"The Buddy Programme is an important part of the reason why Umeå University's international students feel so good," says Jennifer Börresson.
Exchange students from 36 different countries will begin their studies at Umeå University for the spring 2014 academic. The highest numbers come from Germany, France, Finland and the United States.
