Information for Spring 2012 admitted students

NEWS Umeå University congratulates all international students that have been admitted to courses and programmes starting in the spring 2012 term. We encourage you to take the next important steps before the term start on 23 January 2012.

We have gathered useful information that is important to newly admitted students at Umeå University.

Pay tuition fee first instalment

For citizens from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland, you will receive informationl regarding payment of the first instalment of your tuition fees. You should pay these fees as soon as possible. You won't be able to have your residency permit for studies approved until you've done so.

Apply for residence permit

Citizens from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland have to apply for a residence permit if they are planning on studying in Sweden for longer than three months. Once you have paid the first instalment of your tuition fee, you should immediately apply for your residence permit. See the Swedish Migration Board for more info.

EU/EEA/Swiss citizens exempt from tuition fees

If you are citizens of EU/EEA country or Switzerland, you are exempt from paying tuition. Additionally, a residence permit is not needed to enter Sweden. You have the right of residence in Sweden and may study without a residence permit. If you would like to stay longer than three months, you have to register with the Swedish Migration Board.
