Med student wins two European Orienteering Championship gold medals

NEWS Helena Jansson - a medical student at Umeå University - won double gold at the European Orienteering Championships in Bulgaria.

On Sunday, Helena won the gold in the sprint distance with a time of 14:36, twenty seconds faster than her closest competitor. Yesterday, she ran the final leg of the relay and out-sprinting Minna Kauppi of Finland in the final stages to win by 12 seconds. Switzerland took the relay bronze medal.

244 athletes from 31 nations will be competing for medals in all three individual formats and a relay. The three individual finals count for World Cup points. The event was held in the Black Sea coastal town of Primorsko, in the South East corner of Bulgaria.

The medical degree programme at Umeå University is completed over 11 intense terms, preparing students for careers in medicine.
