Nearly 1,000 international students to arrive at Umeå University

On Monday 19 January, Umeå University will welcome its new international students from across the globe. 254 exchange students from 36 countries are arriving for the start of the spring 2015 academic term. In addition, 732 students outside of exchange agreements have been admitted to courses and degree programmes.
“International students have ranked Umeå University number one in Europe and ninth in world in the International Student Barometer survey for student satisfaction,” says Anders Fällström, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Umeå University. “Providing the students with a good introduction and offering them social activities is very important in making them feel welcome and fulfilled.”
The incoming exchange students are from 36 countries. The nation representing the largest number of students is Germany with 30, followed by South Korea and France with 18 students each, and the United States with 15.
The vast majority of exchange students are expected to arrive in Umeå on Sunday 18 January. Umeå University’s International Housing Office, in collaboration with Bostaden housing company, has arranged student rooms for exchange students and those obligated to pay tuition fees. The students will pick up their room keys and be received by dedicated staff members at Infocenter in the Universum Building.
Umeå University kicks off its Orientation Course on Monday 19 January, which is intended to help new international students learn about what it's like to study and live in Sweden. In addition, the university offers a popular social programme known as the Buddy Programme. It includes activities that take place throughout the entire year to help them integrate and adapt to life in Umeå.
