Hans-Olov Byquist has been named the new head of the Office for External Relations at Umeå University. Byquist will leave his post as head of research management at the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency.
"I'm delighted that Hans-Olov Byquist has chosen to move with us at Umeå University in his future career," says Siv Olofsson, head of administration at Umeå University. "With Hans-Olov, we get an experienced unit manager who is familiar with both the research-related matters and collaborations with industry and government."
Hans-Olov Byquist assumes the position as head of the Office for External Relations on 13 February 2012.
"After working for years with research funding, I am convinced that a more developed cooperation between the many areas of the university and the entire community is crucial for us to strengthen Sweden's international competitiveness, the development of our regions, and our own institution of higher education," says Hans-Olov Byquist. "I feel very inspired to be working with this important task at Umeå University.”
Office for External Relations
The Office for External Relations has the task to function as a support and a contact for companies, organizations, and authorities who wish to cooperate with Umeå University.They also initiate meeting places between academics and industry to inform people about what Umeå University has to offer.
Regionally, the Office for External Relations isalso represented in Lycksele, Skellefteå, Örnsköldsvik, and Kiruna. These regional offices function as the University’s operative resource in the dialogues with local industry and society.
More about Hans-Olov Byquist
Hans-Olov Byquist was born and raised in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden. He received a licentiate degree in economic history at Umeå University in 1997. In the following year he moved to Stockholm and worked as division director at Swedish National Board of Civil Preparedness (now the Swedish Emergency Management Agency) with responsibility for skills development and analysis. A few years later he was recruited by the Swedish Rescue Services Agency in Karlstad with the mandate to review and develop the agency's work with the development of knowledge in the form of research. In 2009, he became the head of research management at the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB).
