New search tool for journals with open access discounts

NEWS The library launches a search tool for journals where Umeå University researchers may get a discount on the open access publishing fee.

The beta version of a new search tool is now being opened up to researchers who wish to search for journals where all or part of the cost for open access publishing is covered by the library’s agreements with various publishers. All journals that are included in library agreements with publishing rights can be found in the tool, in total close to 11 500 titles.

- We hope that this will be of use to researchers wanting to find out whether the open access fee might be covered when they are considering or are about to publish in a journal, says Therese Nilsson, part of the team for Publishing and Scholarly Services at the library.

- We wanted to give access to a search tool as quickly as possible, since we think our researchers could really benefit from an easy way to check what’s included in our agreements themselves. We’re looking forward to getting feedback on the tool, she says, and adds a reminder that the current release is a beta version, still under development.

She also encourages researchers to read the general terms and conditions for the agreements carefully, and to use the link to more detailed information about the agreement that a journal is included in.

In most cases, it’s easy to publish open access and get the discount through our agreements, but for some agreements there may be specific steps you need to take. Some agreements also have additional terms. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you are unsure about anything. We can help with any questions you have about open access and our agreements.
