New staff members at Computing Science. Both Mirko Myllykoski and Angelika Schwarz joined us this week and will strengthen the team working on the NLAFET EU Horizon 2020 project, which is coordinated by Bo Kågström and Lennart Edblom.
Angelika is a PhD student from Germany and will work together with us for a year. Her main PhD project focuses on automatic code generation with the aim of improving the performance of unusual but performance-critical numerical kernels. Her work is part of another Horizon 2020 project (ExaHyPE) funded in the same call as NLAFET. Angelika's task will mainly be to apply her expertise to algorithms of significance for NLAFET. We foresee that her results will be a key to really push the boundaries of scalability.
Mirko is employed as a post doc for two years and comes from Finland. His background is particularly strong in heterogeneous (CPU + GPU) computing and he will provide the team with some much needed competence and experience in that area. Mirko will play a key role in meeting the various objectives and deliverables of NLAFET, with a special emphasis on the challenges and opportunities of heterogeneous computing.
