Peter Sköld elected into UArctic Board of Governors

NEWS In September 2016, Peter Sköld, director of the Arctic Research Centre at Umeå University, was elected new member of the Board of Governors at the University of the Arctic (UArctic), which is a network collaboration between 190 higher education institutions, research institutes and other organisations active in education and research within the arctic and circumpolar area. Umeå University is one of seven Swedish collaborative partners in the network.

Besides a small operative administration, the organisation consists of an administrative office and degree programmes at several of the partner organisations. The organisation is managed by the Uarctic Board of Governors consisting of eleven elected members and two student representatives.

At the UArctic Congress that took place in St. Petersburg on 12–16 September 2016, the Arcum director Peter Sköld was elected member of the Board of Governors. Peter Sköld is professor in History, Sami development of society and culture at Umeå University.

Peter Sköld is director of Arcum (the Arctic Research Centre at Umeå University). His research profile contains historic demography, the health of indigenous peoples and nordic cultures. Peter Sköld is also president of the organisation International Arctic Social Science Association (IASSA) and deputy chair of WG Human and Social Sciences in the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC).

Between 2014 and 2018, Peter Sköld is one of two leaders of the MISTRA project New Governance for a Sustainable Development in the European Arctic, including 36 researchers.
