Bildmuseet is preeminent on the scene of contemporary art and visual culture in Sweden. After 30 years of activities, the museum now moved to a new seven-story building signed by Henning Larsen Architects in collaboration with White. Property developer is Balticgruppen AB. On site at Umeå Arts Campus, situated along the Umeå river, Bildmuseet is neighbour with the Academy of Fine Arts, Institute of Design, the School of Architecture and Humlab-X.
The new facade is made of larch and the museum building hosts three exhibition halls, a project room, a children’s workshop, a foldout presentation hall/ auditorium, reception area and museum shop. Bildmuseet’s location by the river near Umeå city centre offers a splendid view of the landscape and of the city.
Following the press preview, installation of the first exhibitions will begin. On May 19 Bildmuseet opens to the public.
