Stick to the COVID restrictions

NEWS A year of pandemic has passed, but many people are still being infected around Umeå. Hence, we need to do more. Although it is much nicer to meet and hang out with others in person we need to stick to group work online, among other things. If you need to meet others, meet in small groups and stick to one and the same group – and maintain your distance. When people move between groups, it increases the risk of spreading infection.

This strict way of reasoning is necessary to reduce the spread of infection, which in turn means that fewer people need to fall seriously ill, and it prevents the healthcare system from being overloaded. But taking the COVID precautions seriously is also a condition for the university to be able to carry on educating and assessing its students so that you can complete your studies.

If you need to remind yourself of what the university’s measures involve, please take a look at the University COVID-measures. These measures are valid until 7 June 2021. Also, regularly check out umu.se/en/covid-19 for updates.

Regional stricter measures

The so-called “stricter recommendations” that have applied in Västerbotten since February have now been extended until 18 April. Despite their name, these are far from recommendations and state that all citizens must, to an even greater extent than before, avoid meeting new contacts, avoid places that can cause crowding. Also, everyone must work and study from home as often as possible, not make unnecessary travels within or out of the county, as well as use face masks in public transport and when you cannot avoid close contact with others.

Online tools for group work

As a student, you have access to a number of services that simplify for your online group work – particularly through Office 365. Using Teams enables you to create teams in which you can chat, have video calls and organise your work and your documents.
