TropEd Network Chair/President elected from Umeå University

NEWS Marie Lindkvist, Associate Professor at EpiGh has been elected by International TropEd Network, a network dedicated to Global Health, as the chair of the network. The mandate starts next year.

Troped is a network of HEIs in Global Health, with ca 30 member institutions registered from around 20 different countries. TropEd focuses on improving the management of health services for disadvantaged populations, the  network has primary focus in creating opportunities in postgraduate education and training and thereby contributing to capacity building, particularly in low and middle-income countries.

As chair Marie Lindkvist hopes to lead the networks efforts to expand further collaborations with leading higher education institutions in Europe and also towards new possibilities with institutions in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

tropEd accredidation is a statement about standards in education and training in the member institution. We plan to increase courses that are accredited and we will have the possibility to contribute to the Networks overall development, and that we hope will also benefit the Department of EpiGh and Umeå University, says Marie.

Description of tropEd

tropEd is a network of institutions for higher education in International/Global Health. It is a registered association of ≈30 member institutions from ≈20 countries collaborating in the provision of education in Global Health. tropEd provides opportunities for postgraduate education and training contributing to sustainable development.
tropEd focuses on improving the management of health services for disadvantaged populations. The approach is based on the mobility of people, the exchange of experiences in different disciplines and the establishment of a common standard in education and training. Education accredited by tropEd is characterised by a unique synergy of experience and expertise of leading European institutions and institutions from Asia, Africa and Latin America.

The concept of partnership between institutions is central to tropEd. Currently, the initial European partnership has gradually extending to include further institutional partners in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Postgraduate training is the major focus of tropEd, which aims to contribute to capacity building through sustainable development of human resources, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, through the promotion of excellence in education and training. Key features include the exchange of teachers, students, knowledge, skills and the encouragement of interdisciplinary approaches.

tropEd accreditation is a statement about standards in education and training in the member institutions, since all courses are subject to external quality control. tropEd aims to contribute to the sustainable development of human resources, particularly in low and middle-income countries through:

• Promoting excellence in education and training;

• Facilitating exchange of knowledge and skills;

• Encouraging interdisciplinary approaches;

• Fostering mobility and the exchange of teachers and students.
