U.S. embassy rep to make “green” visit to Umeå

NEWS Ryan Koch, an American diplomat at the Embassy of the United States in Stockholm, will be coming to Umeå University on the 23rd of September to highlight President Barack Obama’s environmental agenda. Ryan Koch will also be meeting local politicians, business representatives, and experts with the purpose of gaining more in-depth knowledge about Umeå’s climate and energy initiatives.

The presentation will focus on the current climate and environmental initiatives that President Barack Obama has introduced. In the spring, President Obama committed nearly 80 million dollars towards environmental investment, adopted new standards for more fuel-efficient cars, and proposed the most comprehensive environmental platform in U.S. history.

During the day visit, Ryan Koch will also be meeting local environmental technology companies, politicians and experts in order to broaden the contact network of the embassy and obtain interesting ideas.

The environment has a special focus in 2009, as the Swedish Presidency of the European Union is actively promoting this issue, along with a new climate pact in negotiation.

Since 2006, the Embassy of the United States has been actively working to create an environmental technology partnership between Sweden and the U.S. The collaboration has resulted in an extensive exchange among researchers, businesses and policy makers. In addition, it has generated approximately 200 million dollars in trade and investment between the two countries.
