Umeå Institute of Design students win first prize in snow sculpture contest

NEWS Team Sunrise from the Umeå Institute of Design won the championship trophy in the Umeå snow sculpture contest with their work titled "The Battle of Jante." The team won the jury’s vote and 7,000 Swedish kronor in prize money after working diligently and creatively during Friday and Saturday.

A unanimous jury based their decision on the grounds: "Literary characters that rise up from the book and into peaceful Umeå". Additionally, the snow sculpture deemed to have a theme that was easily accessible for both children and adults. The winning team consisted of Benjamin Dueñas Figueroa, Lena Edman, and Linda Bresäter.

Second prize went team Apelsin with the sculpture "Miggidos Mountain" and the public's choice and jury's third prize was won by Law Death with the sculpture "The Lion."

The jury consisted of: Marie-Louise Rönnmark, Umeå Ambassador 2009; Sara Sandström Nilsson, Umedalen Sculpture; Brita Numerator Dahl, Bildmuseet; Margit Norman, Västerbottens-kuriren and Lars Flodström, cultural contact.
All snow sculptures are on display at Rådhusesplanaden (town hall square) in the centre of Umeå.
