Umeå University and Microsoft reach cooperative pact

NEWS The agreement comprises a collaboration within the areas of research, competence development and increased employability for university graduates.

“The university’s 30,000 students will receive a new e-mail account platform, online storage and communication tools with Live@edu, which also eases the burden for IT- services through reducing costs,” says Microsoft’s Nils Stadling.

In addition, a collective virtual centre for research related issues will be established. The objective is to improve contacts and make the application process for research grants much easier.

"This agreement will allow us to reduce our costs by allowing our students to have email access via Microsoft’s email service. Students and faculty will also have access to educational materials for the typical Office applications. The opportunities for our researchers to collaborate with Microsoft in research projects will also be greater,” explains Sören Berglund, Head of IT at Umeå University.
