Umeå University best regional brand name nominee

NEWS Football star Marta and the Umeå Open festival are the other candidates that have been nominated for the 2008 best brand name by local newspaper Västerbottens-Kuriren, distributer of the award at the Umeå Gala on 13 November.

“This is very exciting, of course,” says Ulla Nordlinder, Head of the Information Office at Umeå University.
“I believe that we have been nominated because we perform a significant role for Umeå and the branding of the Umeå region."

Each year, the Umeå Gala (Umeågalan) singles out Umeå-based companies in several categories that have achieved local, national and international success. Residents of Umeå were able to nominate their favourite brand names between 29 September and 10 October. The jury has now selected the top three candidates of all the applications received.

“We have worked strategically to develop our operations at various levels and the overall image of the university has been important,” says Lars Lustig, University Director.
“The development of such areas as excellence in research, the campus area, our marketing campaigns, centres of excellent quality in higher education, and certainly our prominent research results, have allowed us to be seen and heard more often,” he adds.

Ulla Nordlinder gives a great deal of credit to the University Management. “Their support has been incredibly significant for this nomination,” she emphasises.
“They play a large role in how our university is perceived. They participate in different contexts that are important for the region and present the university in a simple and understandable way, which is extremely important," continues Ulla Nordlinder.
