Umeå University places high in new ranking

NEWS Umeå University has been ranked as the sixth best higher education institution in nation by the Swedish weekly news magazine Fokus, including a first place ranking in the categories of “most international collaboration” and “most teacher-led instruction.”

Fokus has ranked 26 higher education institutions in Sweden, and has for the first time based their analysis on students’ own preferences. The ranking includes 23 different variable areas and Umeå University is ranked first in the nation in two areas. A second place ranking was in the area of “highest number of students in town.” The university received a fourth place ranking for “highest frequency of teachers” “and most effective students.”

The variable areas were divided into six sub-groups. In order to investigate the different sub-groups a questionnaire was sent to 220,000 students, of which 15,000 responded. The magazine later collected data for the 23 variables and gave an index value for each one.
