Umeå University ranked among world’s top 300 universities

This year’s Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), commonly known as the Shanghai Ranking, listed Umeå University again among the world's top 300 universities. In the field of clinical medicine and pharmacy, Umeå University was fourth in the nation.
The ranking, released by the Center for World-Class Universities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, evaluated over 1,000 universities in the world. The top 500 are presented in the list. The ranking is based on data of the university's research, including the number of Nobel Laureates and Fields Medals, citations in scientific journals and the number of publications in the journals of Nature and Science.
American universities dominate the top tier with Harvard University and Stanford University sharing first place. Three Swedish universities are among the top 100: Karolinska Institutet (44), Uppsala University (73) and Stockholm University (82). This is followed by Lund University (101-150) and the University of Gothenburg (151-200). Umeå University is ranked along with 100 other universities, including the Royal Institute of Technology and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in place 201-300. This is equivalent to a 6-8 placement in Sweden. In total there are eleven Swedish universities on the list.
According to the ranking, Umeå University is listed among the top 101-150 in the field of clinical medicine and pharmacy. This corresponds to fourth highest in Sweden.
Last spring, two respected international ranking systems placed Umeå University among the world’s best under the age of 50 years, at #29 and #34. Umeå University was also the highest ranked institution in Sweden and the Nordic countries. These lists focus on young universities with great potential for the future.
