NEWS Umeå University signs a strategic partnership with the Volvo Group cab plant in Umeå producing cabs for trucks. The agreement involves a strengthened and more diversified collaboration between the parties within research, education and innovation.
“We are pleased about the new agreement with the Volvo Group cab plant in Umeå. Our increased collaboration will further strengthen both parties and contribute to growth in the region,” says Agneta Marell, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for External Relations and Innovation at Umeå University.
The Volvo Group cab plant in Umeå is one of northern Sweden’s largest engineering industries with about 1,500 employees. The cab plant is one of the most modern production plants in the world and functions as an introductory plant for new technologies and materials in stamping, body in white and surface treatment. The university’s new strategic partnership with the company opens up for collaboration and knowledge-sharing within all of the university’s research and education areas, but also favours innovation and professional growth.
“We strive for a continuous and long-term exchange of competence with both internal as external partners; an exchange that further gives teeth to our competences. Collaborating with prominent, local partners is important and promotes Volvo and the regional development further. Therefore, we are very pleased to see this agreement come into effect,” says Mona Edström Frohm, Vice President at Volvo Group Trucks Operations, Umeå.
The work on identifying and finding forms for the collaboration has been carried out for some time, according to Agneta Marell, and the new partnership is hence thoroughly worked through and the result is both wide and complete. The agreement spans over many forms of collaboration such as, for instance, degree projects, placements, joint research projects, applications, seminars and workshops.
