NEWS On Tuesday – 1 December the Sweden-Korea Nobel Memorial Program 2020 will take place. Swedish and Korean researchers will comment on this year's Nobel Prizes in a completely new virtual program open to the public.

Text: Petra Käck

– The Sweden-Korea Nobel Memorial Program 2020 celebrates science, discovery and curiosity. Annelie Bränström Öhman, professor in literature at Umeå University, participates in this exciting program. She will comment on this year’s Nobel Prize in Literature Louise Glück, says Helena Gradin, Assistant Head of Division at International Office.

Since 2013, Umeå University has collaborated with the Swedish Embassy in Seoul to recruit students from the Republic of Korea. The collaboration has now developed to also include research.

The Swedish universities participating are Umeå University, University of Gothenburg, KTH and Lund University. The collaboration project is also supported by the Swedish Institute and the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

– Last year Sweden and Korea celebrated 60 years of diplomatic relations. By discussing the Nobel Prize from different perspectives, we hope to create a context and a greater understanding of our world, Helena Gradin continues.

The Nobel symposium aims to raise the interest in higher education, research and development in the areas of science, technology and the humanities in both Sweden and the Republic of Korea. The symposium 2020 will be available in both English and Korean.
