University spinoff company UmBio named best Swedish newcomer for 2009

NEWS UmBio AB based in Umeå has been named the best Swedish upcoming company for 2009 in the Metro Tech Challenge, a Swedish competition arranged by SiSP (Swedish Innovators and Science Parks) and MetroTeknik. The successful research spinoff venture from Organic Chemistry at Umeå University received SEK 50,000 as the first prize recipient.

“Being named best Swedish newcomer 2009, and having satisfied customers using our quality control products, is the best endorsement one can get,” says Oskar Jonsson, Managing Director of UmBio AB, Umeå, Sweden.

The award was announced during the prize ceremony held in Linköping, where last year’s winner is located. In 2010, the ceremony will take place in Umeå, where UmBio AB is based. The company has previously been linked to Uminova Innovation's incubator for startup companies.

The jury has recognised UmBio's achievements as follows:
They a great example of successful entrepreneurship, together with a positive development of the organisation, technology, products and market. UmBio seems to have the true possibility to penetrate an international process market. They are world leading pioneers within spectral image analysis. UmBio provides next generation's quality control by offering chemical analysis in real time processes. UmBio’s R&D department is very pleased to win this award after many hours of hard work and late nights.

Market & Sales Manager Johan Sandström was also delighted that world leading pharmaceutical company Pfizer has completed their purchase of UmBio’s products; Evince software for multivariate data analysis.
