What are your thoughts on being appointed to the Umeå School of Business Advisory Board?

– I’m both happy and proud to be part of the School of Business Advisory Board. The school plays an important role in shaping talents and future stars who will develop organizations across industries for many years to come. I have many years of experience in retail, especially in the grocery sector, and I hope to contribute with insights from that field.

What is a hot topic in retail that currently engages you?

–  Retail as a whole is challenged by new buying behaviors and price pressure. One pressing issue right now is how to create or maintain an attractive employer brand in a tough economic climate.

The School of Business offers a program in Retail and Logistics. What do you think is the most important takeaway for students aiming for a career in retail?

–  The most important thing is to gain an understanding of the bigger picture and how the business is interconnected through various flows in a business model. You don’t need to know everything or be a specialist when you graduate, but having a broad understanding and interest in the business is a valuable asset. It’s also crucial to understand that human interaction, both in the workplace and especially with customers is absolutely essential for a sustainable business.

The Advisory Board at the School of Business, Economics and Statistics consists of members from both the private and public sectors, tasked with contributing to the development of the school’s activities through collaboration.
