Characterization of limestone using synchrotron-based micro-tomography

Research project With more in-depth know ledge about the chemical and physical properties of the carbonate rock, the possibilities to use the raw materials more efficiently increase, and thereby production losses and CO2 emissions can be minimized.

The aim of the project is to evaluate and demonstrate the possibilities of applying synchrotron based micro-tomography to promote process optimization and development needs for quicklime and cement industries. Specific needs involve investigating morphology, microstructure and fractures of cores and samples from different carbonate rocks, primarily targeting porosity and the ratio between fine-grained material and larger crystals.
