Teaching and learning programming in Swedish primary school

PhD project During the last decade, there has been a strong global increase in interest for computer programming in schools, also for the younger ages.

In 2016, the Swedish Agency of Education released a new IT strategy for the Swedish education system. The strategy has not yet been approved by the Swedish government but Skolverket argues that Swedish schools must become better at addressing technology from a future perspective and that programming should be included in mathematics and technology, already from first grade. In Sweden, a grassroots movement of enthusiastic teachers are already implementing programming activities in their teaching, but there is a lack of didactical research about teaching and learning programming in primary school
