The development of technology as subject matter in Swedish compulsory school
Technology has been an obligatory subject in the Swedish compulsory school since the beginning of the eighties. During this time there has been problems with establishing a common subject content.
A recent report from the Swedish Schools Inspectorate describes to problem as especially pronounced regarding knowledge about the development of technology in the later years of the compulsory school.
My thesis shall contribute with perspective on this problem. The preliminary plan is to do substudies describing how the theories of the subject area are described in research literature, to what extent these theories inform educational materials in technology, the knowledge of technology teachers, how technology teachers structure their teaching time in subject areas and a teaching trial with the ambition to contribute with knowledge about explicit teaching of some of the subject matter theories.
