Project description

According to Lithner (2008, 2017) tasks which are routine, procedural or just require memorizing previous knowledge tend to result in rote learning. Major difficulty in learning can be caused by superficial rote learning. Tasks which open for students’ exploration and deep engagement in thinking processes possibly result in better conceptual understanding, knowledge internalization and can avoid rote learning.

In short, this project explores reasoning of students in two countries having different educational curriculum, Sweden, and Indonesia. This project investigates learning through creative mathematical reasoning tasks in the two countries, how this varies between countries. This project hopefully will help teachers to provide meaningful learning for students.
