Studies the mathematics teaching-learning relationship, at all educational levels.
Anna Ida Säfström studies the relation betweeen teaching and learning in mathematics, at all educational levels. She is particularly interested in how children's and students' reasoning affect their learning, and how reasoning that results in more sustainable and useful learning can be supported by teaching. Her research has also resulted in development of methods for studying the relationship between teaching and learning in mathematics, and in teaching materials and practical tools for teachers. Together with Johan Lithner, she leads the research group LICR, and 2026–2030 she coordinates the national graduate school AMTLR, funded by the Swedish Research Council.
