My general research interests concerns 'the politics of aging', central-local government relations and privatizations in the welfare municipality.
First, 'the politics of aging' includes several subtopics such as public policy, participation and representation and the role played by organized interests. I have conducted several studies on the role played by pensioners' organizations for the shaping of welfare policy in Sweden. The empirical studies have focused on pensioners' organizations' participation and influence on public pensions, housing allowance, dental care insurance and fees for elderly care.
Secondly, my research interest concerns central – local government relations. Within this field of research I have conducted studies on local government associations and their agenda, participation and influence on constitutional policy. Besides, studies have been conducted on the Swedish debate on regions and the role played by different stakeholders such as parties and organized interests.
Thirdly, I am interested in privatizations in the welfare municipality. What do new modes of steering with the markets as a model imply for local democracy? Does it imply a development towards more individual participation for the local citizens? If so, how does this affect collective participatory modes?
My teaching experience covers many subdisciplines of political science: Political theory, politics and administration, international relations, European Union studies and policy analysis.
