Fabio König is a PhD student at the Department of Political Science at Umeå University, where he works within the WIFORCE project The art of governing forests: mastering governance dilemmas across multiple levels. His research focuses on environmental governance, forest governance, land-use conflicts, and questions of legitimacy, participation, and policy implementation in Sweden.
Fabio holds a Master’s degree in Crisis Management and Peacebuilding, and his work builds on extensive qualitative field research in northern Sweden. His earlier research focused on land-use conflicts in Sápmi, with particular attention to Sámi reindeer herding, climate change, and governance and consultation processes. His master’s thesis examined how Sámi reindeer herders experience increasing land-use pressures and how institutional frameworks shape possibilities for long-term adaptation.
Building on this work, Fabio now develops research on Swedish forest governance and the governance dilemmas that arise between climate, biodiversity, production, and local land-use interests.
Fabio is also affiliated with the international research project SATOCONN, where he has contributed to comparative research on social-ecological landscapes, knowledge co-production, and more inclusive approaches to land-use governance.
