My research and teaching is on occupational and environmental medicine.
In my research I study the impact of various working environment factors on human health, both chemical substances used in different work environments eg. styrene in the plastic boat industry, acrylics among dental technicians and isocyanates among foundry workers as well as particles and physical factors such as vibrating hand-held machines and coldness. Recently, my research is about indoor air quality and BRS = building-related-sickness (SBS).
The main focus in my research is exposure assessment meaning that the exposure measurement should not only be technically correct but must also take into account factors such as differences in exposure between different workers and from one day to another for one and the same worker. For me, exposure measurement is an important part of risk assessment.
My research is funded by FORTE (Research Council for Health, Work Life and Welfare) and FORMAS (Research Council for Environment, Area of Business and Community Building).
In addition to research, I work clinically with patients who is investigated if their work environmental have caused medical issues. The clinical work is educating and a very valuable source for new research ideas.
I participate in teaching at the Master Program for Work and Health and teach and supervise students in Dental Technician Training. Other teaching is aimed at various performers in Occupational and Environmental Medicine in the Region of Northern Sweden.
