I’m a PhD student in Prof. Eric Libby’s research group, which is part of the interdisciplinary research center IceLab. We focus on modeling major transitions in the evolution of biological complexity.
My curious mind and a soft spot for mathematics led me to apply for this PhD project led by Prof. Eric Libby. Fortunately, luck was in my favor, and I got the opportunity to join his research group. In the group, we use mathematical modeling to study major transitions in evolution and to expand our general understanding of increasing biological complexity.
In my project, I model the circumstances surrounding the endosymbiosis between prokaryotic cells, which is believed to have led to the emergence of eukaryotic cells. Since my previous studies were in the field of industrial engineering and statistics, microbiology was an entirely new field for me when I started, but I am truly fascinated by applying mathematics to answer questions in biology.
