My name is Simone Scarpa, and I have been working as an Associate Professor at the Department of Social Work since 2019. I obtained the Swedish title of Docent in 2022.
I hold a PhD in European Urban and Local Studies from Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca (Italy) and a PhD in Social Work from Linnaeus University (Växjö). Previously, I have worked at the Institute for Research on Migration, Ethnicity and Society (REMESO) at Linköping University, the Institute for Housing and Urban Research (IBF) at Uppsala University, and the Department of Sociology at Uppsala University.
My research is mainly quantitative and focuses on three main areas:
- housing segregation, urban inequality, and housing policy
- substance use, health inequalities, and severe health outcomes
- the welfare state and transformations of social policy
I also serve as a scientific member of the Alcohol Research Council of Systembolaget.
I have extensive teaching experience within the Social Work Programme, where I teach in several courses and course modules. I also supervise social work students in their bachelor’s theses.
