Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras)

Established: 1959 with technical and financial assistance from the former government of West Germany which has led to many research collaborations with universities and institutes in Germany.
Number of students: 8,000
Campus: Much of the campus is a protected forest, home to large numbers of chital (spotted deer), black buck, monkeys, and other rare wildlife.
Student life: IIT Madras has advanced research centres in several technical and scientific areas, with close to 100 laboratories.

The university has been ranked Top Engineering Institute in India by National Institutional Ranking Frameworks 2018.

Restrictions 

To apply for graduate courses, students should be enrolled in graduate program at their home university at the time of applying. 
 
Students will be sent a course list after they have been nominated to IIT Madras. From this list they can choose courses based on their course enrollment at their home university.

Additional costs

As an exchange student, you do not need to pay tuition fees. However, additional costs may incur. 

Mandatory insurance must be purchased by students who are accepted for an exchange. This costs approximately ₹850 per semester. 

Accommodation

IIT Madras provides student accommodation in hostels. There are 20 hostels, including five for women only.

Student grants and loans for studies outside of Sweden

You may be entitled to student grants and loans from CSN when studying abroad.

As the cost of living and accommodation may be higher abroad, you can apply for an extra loan known as an additional loan for studies abroad.

You can also apply for an additional loan to cover additional costs, i.e. travel and insurance costs.
