The Academy of Fine Arts has a new exhibition space at Renmarksesplanaden 3, Umeå. Skyltfönstret, a place for small intensive art projects and presentations by and with students at Umeå Art Academy.

For thousands of years, the drum has been the fundamental tool in practice of many different paths. All over the world, it can be found in every culture and tradition.

The drum is also an individual being, with great responsibilities and its own history. It embodies both the beat and the rhythm, two powerful elemental forces.
Because of these very powers, it has been banned and stigmatized. Yet, it continues to be used across the world, in shamanic practices as well as on the many different stages with all of our favorite artists.

My view is that the very first drum being traveled with us from another world. It found its home within us and thus became our most important drum, the heart. Whose beat and rhythm keep us alive.
But the drum also found its home in other places, in nature and in the river, the stone, and the animals. 

It lives in us all, in everything.
The first outer beat and rhythm came when human being struck stone against stone, giving birth to the first spark. That spark became a fire, securing our continued existence and vital survival.

The drum, the wise being and the tool.
The beat and the rhythm, the very pulse of life.
The Drum Journey. the possibility to travel to many other worlds and their inhabitants.
