Om föreläsningen:
Listeria monocytogenes is facultative intracellular pathogen that displays remarkable adaptability to harsh environmental conditions, including low pH and low temperatures and low water activity. In part this resistance to environmental stress stems from the SigB-regulated general stress response (GSR). The SigB regulon comprises around 300 genes whose functions contribute to critical homeostatic and protective functions. While the GSR plays a pivotal role in surviving under harsh conditions we have found that there is a significant cost to deploying it and in several conditions we see the emergence of mutations that negatively affect the GSR. In this seminar I will present these data and discuss the implications for the evolution of this pathogen.
