Abstract (på engelska): This seminar focuses on a drone-mounted LiDAR survey campaign carried out in August 2025. Over a two-week field season in the Umeå region, high-resolution LiDAR data was acquired by drone, generating an exceptionally detailed terrain model of previously under-documented landscapes.
These datasets were subsequently processed into digital elevation models (DEMs) and raster products, which served as the foundation for AI-driven detection algorithms designed to identify anomalies potentially corresponding to archaeological features. Deep learning approaches were trained to distinguish anthropogenic structures from natural landforms, thereby improving detection accuracy under dense vegetation and in complex northern terrain.
Beyond the discovery of potential new sites, this framework demonstrates how cutting-edge remote sensing and machine learning can reshape archaeological prospection in high-latitude environments.
