Seminariet har den engelska titeln "Reindeer retrieved from melting snow patches reveal information on prehistoric landscape use in Swedish Sápmi - an attempt to trace (pre-) historic reindeer mobility through the use of stable isotope and radiocarbon analysis"

Abstract: “Unfortunately, glaciers and snow patches are melting; however, this offers a unique opportunity to study the use of mountainous landscape in the past. Here I will compare modern, historic and archaeological reindeer to Forest and Mountain Sámi reindeer herding districts. By using radiocarbon dating, osteological, and stable isotope analysis I aim at study reindeer mobility, land use and climatic variations through time. In this talk I will present some results from a study on reindeer from the area of Stuor Muorkke, as well as some preliminary results from reindeer mobility in the Piteå and Skellefteå River valleys, as well from the Glacial Archaeological surveys in Swedish Sápmi.”
