An important shard interest of disability studies and media studies is the materiality of media and its consequences for differently situated subjects. Toby Miller examines both ends of the production cycle of media technologies – manufacture and disposal- to demonstrate the interconnected ways that they are physically, economically, environmentally, and politically disabling.
Toby Miller is a British/Australian-American interdisciplinary social scientist with areas of concentration including cultural studies and media studies. He is Professor at University of California Riverside; at Murdoch University, at Universidad del Norte, at Cardiff University, and at Loughborough University. Toby Miller is the author and editor of over forty books, among which can be mentioned Greenwashing culture, Greening the media and Blow up the humanities. During 2019 he is guest researcher at the department of culture and media studies at Umeå University.
