Thursday, 17 October
The Teaching Awardee Panels 10:15–12:30 in Ljusgården Atrium, the Teacher Education Building
The teaching award recipients participate in panel discussions and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Cathrine Norberg will hand out diplomas to the award recipients. The event is open to the public.
Friday, 18 October
Grand opening of an exhibition 11:00-12:00 in the University Library Study Hall
An exhibition of the honorary doctors, new professors and award recipients is presented in the University Library in the Social Sciences Building. The event is open to the public.
Saturday, 19 October
Lectures by the new professors, award recipients and honorary doctors 9:00-12:00 in the Social Sciences Building and the Humanities Building.
It is tradition at Umeå University that honorary doctors, new professors and scientific award recipients each deliver a lecture aimed at the general public. The lecture is 20 minutes long and focuses on the field of research, the work or similar subjects of interest. The scientific award recipients will receive their diplomas after their lectures.
The Annual Celebration Ceremony 17:00 in Aula Nordica Dress code: Formal attire (white tie) for guests also attending the Banquet. No dress code for guests only attending the Ceremony.
The doors to the auditorium open ca 16.30 and attendants should be seated at 16.50. At the start of the Ceremony, the honorary doctors and new professors enter the auditorium in procession and take their seats on stage.
The opening addresses will be followed by the conferment of honorary doctors and finally the installation of new professors. The Ceremony is open to the public and generally takes between 1.5 and 2 hours.
Seat reservations at the Ceremony
All registered guests at the Ceremony will have a seat reservation in the auditorium and information about seating has been sent.
If you have received a personal invitation from the University you will receive an email with your seating.
If you are a University employee registered as a guest to the event you will receive an email with your seating.
If you are invited to the event by one of this year's guests of honour, they will receive information about your seating.
If you have questions about your seating, there will be staff available by the doors of the auditorium.
Photo and film
Please note that: Umeå University will photograph and live broadcast the Ceremony to use in their communication. Contact the Communications Office on komm@umu.se or talk to the staff on site if you have any objection to appearing in such footage.
The Annual Celebration Banquet 19:00–02:00 in Restaurant Lingon, Universum Dress code: Formal attire (white tie)
After the Ceremony all invited guests and guests of honour will assemble for a welcome toast in Universum, in the same building as the auditorium. The toastmaster will give notice when it is time to take your seat at the table.
The dinner will take about three hours and pre-registered speeches will be held over the course of the evening. After coffee is served, the dance floor will open up to music by Renhornen.
Seating at the Banquet
Information about your table number will be sent a few days before the Ceremony. Your name and table number will also be shown on screens in Universum.
If you have received a personal invitation from the University, you will receive an email stating your table number.
If you are a University employee registered as a guest to the event, you will receive an email stating your table number.
If you have been invited to the event by one of this year's guests of honour, they will receive information about your table number on your behalf.
Photos
After dinner there will be a photographer available to take both individual and group photos.
Note that you, as a guest, are welcome to wear decorations, but not a doctoral hat.
Transportation to the event and cloakroom
Taxis and private cars can drive up to the main entrance of Aula Nordica to drop off passengers. There is a bus stop, called Universum, about 100 metres from Aula Nordica. The parking lot outside Aula Nordica is free for guests attending the event. If you plan on taking a taxi home, we encourage you to pre-book your trip.
The cloakroom at the entrance of Aula Nordica is free of charge.

If you are personally invited or have registered to the event yourself (as an employee at the University), any cancellations can be made to arshogtid@umu.se
If you have been invited by one of this year's guest of honour (a professor, honorary doctor or award recipient) notify the person who invited you, who can in turn make cancellations to: arshogtid@umu.se.
