With a budget of some €26 billion, Erasmus+ offers more mobility and cooperation opportunities than ever before. You can apply as an individual or as an organisation.

As an early or mid-career researcher with a keen interest in developing and assessing climate policy-relevant pathways, you can apply for the ELEVATE Research Exchange Programme. The Programme aims at enabling early and mid-career researchers to visit one of the ELEVATE partner institutions and interact with people from different cultural and educational backgrounds.

As a phd student or researcher from a Nordic country, you can apply for the Nordic Energy Research Mobility Programme for travel funding for research and education activities in the Nordic region. Apply for up to 492,000 NOK!

As a Doctoral graduate from a Swedish institution, you can apply for The Eva de la Gardie programme, and go to Paris! The programme corresponds to a one month stay in Paris, and a maximum award of SEK 15,000.

Get funding from the Foundation Blanceflor to work abroad 2026

Deadline long-term: 2 February 2026
Deadline short-term: 2 February 2026 & 1 September 2026

Yearly (1 feb & 1 sep)

As an early career researcher from Sweden or Italy, you can apply for a long-term or short-term scholarship to conduct research abroad. The countries you can go to are Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, Switzerland, Sweden, United Kingdom or USA. For the long-term scholarship, you can apply for up to 400,000 SEK for up to two years abroad, and for the short-term, up to six months abroad.

Get funding for culture-related trips in the Nordic-Baltic regions 2026

Three times a year

This funding is part of the Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Culture, and aims fund more sustainable trips to strengthen artistic and cultural cooperation in the Nordic and Baltic regions.

The funding supports different types of trips. For example:

  • a collaboration with colleagues in another Nordic and/or Baltic country
  • a guest play
  • an exhibition
  • participation in a conference, meeting or workshop
  • research

Research abroad – apply for an SSF Sabbatical!

Deadline: 5 March 2026

As a lecturer, assistant professor or professor, you can apply for up to SEK 3 million from the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF) for a sabbatical between six months and two years for research abroad. The research can be within your current field, or within another discipline, but only within SSF’s prioritized areas of natural sciences, technology or medicine.

Twice a year

Researchers under 40 who earned their doctorate by the application deadline can apply for funding for shorter travels to in international congresses, symposia, workshops, or courses abroad.

North2north exchange programme 2027/2028

Opens 15 December 2026
Deadline: 15 January 2027

Yearly

Via the north2north exchange programme, you can study for a semester at a university located in the Nordic countries, northern USA, Canada, France or the United Kingdom. You pay no tuition fee and there are scholarship possibilities. Which universities you can apply to can vary from year to year.

As a teacher, researcher or PhD student at Umeå University, you can apply for travel grants from Stiftelsen J C Kempes Minnes Akademiska fonder I and II. The total amount of funding for 2025 is SEK 538,712 from the following foundations:

Världsinfektionsfonden announces research and travel grants of up to 25,000 SEK for research on global infectious diseases. This grant is directed towards young researchers registered at a Swedish university, at least at the master’s or Ph.D. level.
