Visit on teacher or staff exchange

The university regularly hosts international visitors on teacher and staff exchange. Most exchange agreements and collaborations are administered at the respective department which means there is no central coordination for visits.

Contact the potential host department

Each department has an International Contact Person whom you should contact to ask about a potential visit. International Contact Persons

  • Click on "Search for information from programes and departments" and then you can search manually or sort by programme or department via the drop-down menu".

If you want to visit a unit, you should turn to the Head of Office. You’ll find a list of all units at: Departments and units

When reaching out to a department or unit, you should specify the intention with your visit, your professional fields of interest and the time frame for your visit. As a rule, most staff are off work during the month of July due to summer holiday, which means it is normally easier to host a visitor during the semesters. Autumn semester usually occurs from September to January and the spring semester from January to June.

Find accommodation

If you and the department or unit agree on a visit you will need to look for accommodation.  What’s suitable depends on for how long you will stay in Umeå. For longer visits you can find more information here on the wepage Finding a home. If it is only for a couple of days or week, you may be best off with a hotel or hostel. You can find more information at: Visit Umeå

Here you can read more about housing in Umeå.

Apply for a visa if needed

If you need to apply for a visa or a visitor’s permit, you’ll do so with the Migration Agency.

The university cannot apply for you, but you may need an invitation of proof of acceptance from the department or unit that will host you.
