Abstract: Wave propagation problems can be modeled by time-dependent second order hyperbolic partial differential equations. Efficient and reliable simulation of wave propagation requires stable and high-order accurate numerical methods. In this talk, I will discuss a class of high-order finite difference methods for the spatial discretization of the governing equations. I will address the challenges on stability for problems with physical boundaries, material interfaces and complex geometry.
