Umeå University is looking for researchers who are early in their careers but who are nevertheless competitive at the national and international level. The positions are at assistant lecturer level for 5 years, with the possibility of extension at lecturer level for 5 years.
Umeå University has extensive support for researchers, covering the entire process from assistance with writing applications to handling and archiving research data.
The university has several research infrastructures and conducts research and teaching in the humanities, social sciences, technology and natural sciences, and medicine. The university conducts research on both a scientific and artistic basis.
This call for applications covers the following areas:
Medicine and health, pharmacy
Natural sciences, engineering and agricultural sciences
Humanities, social sciences, educational sciences and artistic research
Each approved position will receive SEK 3 million per year for 5 years. In addition to the lectureship, this may correspond to, for example
2 doctoral positions
Approximately SEK 500,000 per year in operating funds
The university may also provide additional support to interesting candidates, for example by adding two postdoctoral positions to each approved application.The exact recruitment package is determined in consultation with the recruiting department.
An assistant senior lecturer at Umeå University normally teaches 20% of the time and is normally employed for five years. It is also possible to apply for promotion to senior lecturer. If granted, the position will become a permanent position as a senior lecturer at Umeå University.
The call for applications is made through a nomination process
The call for applications is made through a nomination process. The university will nominate six researchers for the Swedish Research Council's call for applications, which opens in January. Decisions on awards will be made in spring 2026.

The process
For a candidate to be considered for the selection process, the following material must be submitted in one PDF file as a pre-application. The Head of the department you are in contact with will be the receiver of your application. The deadline for submission is November 17, 2025.
Material for pre-application:
Short abstract (1500 characters)
Research plan in English (max. 6 pages and no less than 4 pages, font 12pt)
CV containing research qualifications – positions, prizes and postdoc positions (max 2 pages)
Brief presentation of the candidate’s mobility and international experience (max 0.5 page)
Publication list – highlight the 10 most important publications. Add a short summary of the significance of each of the 10 most important publications.
