Open letter to students due to worrying spread of infection

Dear students,

The spread of COVID-19 in Umeå is serious and the contact tracing carried out by the regional healthcare system is now issuing a warning that major spread of infection has been linked to student parties. This is highly worrying. Region Västerbotten has hence asked Umeå University to remind students of the importance of keeping distance and minimising the number of people you meet. It is also crucial that you stay at home and get tested if symptoms should arise. If you test positive for COVID-19, it is also important to inform your course coordinator or equivalent.

We all need to do what we can to reduce the number of people we meet. Even if the vaccination process is underway, we have not reached the finishing line yet. The university’s aim is for everyone to be able to return to campus this autumn semester, and to succeed, we need to do this together.

I would also like to issue a sincere ‘Thank You’ to all students who do everything you can to prevent the spread of infection. I know that there are many of you out there.

If you are uncertain about the guidelines and regulations that apply, please learn more:

More information about the university’s regulations during the pandemic

More information about stricter recommendations that apply to everyone in Västerbotten County

More information from the Public Health Agency of Sweden

Yours sincerely,

Hans Adolfsson, Vice-Chancellor of Umeå University
