During the spring of 2021, applications for Arcum's strategic funds were open, and during the steering group meeting in April, it was decided to grant three of these applications. Although we are already well into the autumn, Arcum would like to acknowledge and congratulate our associated researchers who received funding, and soon will be implementing their activities.

Every semester Arcum grants strategic funding to Arctic research at Umeå University, which enables research trips, events, invitations of visiting researchers, and publications. The funds are available to researchers at Umeå University usually twice a year. In spring 2021, three grants were awarded:
Anne Heith, Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer at the Department of Cultural and Media Studies, will receive SEK 5,000 in publication support for peer-reviewed publication in the Várdduo writing series. The publication concerns results from the research project "Indigenous peoples, ecocriticism and literacy" where indigenous literature from Sapmi is compared with its American and Australian counterparts.
Krister Stoor, Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer at the Department of Language Studie, will receive SEK 20,000 to participate with a paper in a workshop at the Arctic Circle Assembly in Reykjavik on 14-17 October 2021. Krister has previously stated that the Arctic and indigenous perspective is important in his research.
Ulrica Söderlind, Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer at the Department of Food, Nutrition and Culinary Science, will receive SEK 10,000 to travel to and stay at the André Museum in Gränna. There she will study the food and nutrition of the expedition. The study is intended to form the basis for an application to the Swedish Polar Research Secretariat to participate in a modern Arctic expedition with the icebreaker Oden, to carry out archaeological cooking experiments on Vitön.
We congratulate all grant recipients, and wish all activities good luck! Whether there will be a call for strategic funds for autumn 2021 is not yet clear as Arcum is undergoing a reorganization.
