According to directives from the Public Health Agency of Sweden, Umeå University all employees are requested to work from home fully or partly with those tasks that are possible to perform at a distance in order to limit the spread of the Coronavirus.

To limit spreading, UCEM has decided to cancel the upcoming courses until further notice.

UCEM facility is still open normally for users and provides the functions and services needed and the access to the instruments is still possible.

Courses and workshops

  • Basic course in Scanning and Transmission Electron Microscopy - 1 ECTS
  • Practical course in Scanning Electron Microscopy (Life Science) - Individual training
  • TEM Sample Preparation Course - 1.5 ECTS
  • Electron Microscopy workshop covers materials and life sciences with lectures and demonstrations from EM experts (i.e. academic staff and equipment manufacturers)

Training

One-to-one basis on specimen preparation and microscope operation. Training is conducted subject to demand and availability of UCEM personnel

Previous Courses

SciLifeLab Cryo-EM Sample Preparation and Data Collection, 2-4 June 2020

National course. The purpose of the course is to prepare and train our users in sample preparation methods, introduce users to the image data acquisition workflow, expand knowledge about cryo-EM methods among Swedish researchers and finally show that everyone can learn how to use cryo-EM.

TEM sample preparation course (part II), May 4th-8th 2020

TEM sample preparation course part II – Chemical fixation, high pressure freezing, plastic embedding and staining methods including practice on ultra-microtome sectioning, TEM imaging and an introduction to (Focused Ion Beam) FIB-SEM and electron tomography.

Basic Course in SEM and TEM (1 ECTS), 18-20 February 2020

This course covers fundamental theory and operational principles as well as specimen preparation techniques for scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM/TEM).

EMBL in Sweden 2019

All EMBL staff, alumni, their colleagues and networks in Sweden and the nordic countries are invited to the EMBL in Sweden event at the Academicum, University of Gothenburg on Friday 18 October 2019.

This course covers fundamental theory and operational principles as well as specimen preparation techniques for scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM/TEM).

SciLifeLab Cryo-EM Sample Preparation and Data Collection, 3-5 June 2019
