Umeå University has several regular science outreach events where researchers can participate as a speaker or expert to disseminate their research to the public.

Vetenskapsluncher – science outreach lunches

For almost 20 years, the University has offered science outreach lunch talks on Thursdays. These are now held at Curiosum. The events are organised jointly by the four faculties and the Umeå School of Education, and are well attended. Contact your faculty communications officer if you are interested in participating.

Sports lunches

The Umeå School of Sport Sciences organises three sports lunches per semester for students, professionals and pensioners. The goal of the sports lunches is to present the diversity of sports science research conducted at Umeå University as a form of science outreach while creating forums for sports enthusiasts.

Nature on Campus

Researchers in the field of ecology, geology and nature can contribute their knowledge on outdoor excursions on campus. These excursions are mainly aimed at students and staff who want to learn more about ecology, geology and nature in general. Nature on Campus is organised by the Department of Ecology and Environmental Science.

Fika efter en forskare

The Faculty of Medicine organises science outreach seminars that are also broadcast live. The aim is to share interesting medical research with the audience and allow them the opportunity to discuss research with the attending researchers.

ForskarFredag

European Researchers’ Night in Sweden takes the form of Researchers’ Friday, which occurs across the EU on the same day. The main aim of the event is to show the public that researchers are ordinary people with extraordinarily exciting jobs. Visitors will also see that research can be conducted on just about anything and that a career in research is a very exciting option.

Borrow a Researcher

Through “Borrow a Researcher”, you can visit schools, associations or workplaces on site or online. The event allows you to share knowledge on your subject or talk about working as a researcher. The concept is a part of ForskarFredag. A booking platform enables the target audience to get in touch with a researcher based on subject, availability, target audiences and location. You can register your interest to take part.
