Definition of a research project on umu.se
The following is required to qualify as a research project:
- The project has a head of research with a more or less formalised supervisory role.
- The project has a clear purpose.
- The project has defined resources and a budget.
- The project will run for a limited time.
- Most of the project members are employed or affiliated with Umeå University.
Where information about research projects is published
The project page can be displayed on a department page, personal page or similar based on how the page is tagged, such as whether it is tagged with an organisation or person. It also appears in relevant listings on umu.se/en/research.
Publish a new research project page
If you are the information owner of the page, such as a head of research or doctoral student, fill in the template below and submit it to a web editor in your department or unit.
The web editor then publishes the project page. Once the page has been published, you can edit the text whenever you like. Find your nearest web editor for umu.se on Aktum (UMU ID required).
Use the research project template to start designing the page:
English version: Template for presentation of a research project
Swedish version: Template for presentation of a research project
What project information needs to be provided?
- heading;
- lead paragraph (max. 500 characters including spaces);
- summary (max. 600 characters including spaces);
- project description (max. 2,000 characters, 400–600 characters per paragraph, including spaces, preferably with subheadings);
- source(s) of funding;
- start and end dates;
- who is the head of research, project manager (change the title to doctoral student for doctoral projects); and
- who are the group members (both university staff and external participants).
Be careful to keep the project description within the character count and use subheadings to make it easier for readers.
Optional information on the project page
Web editors can add more content to the project page. A banner image can be added to the page and images or videos can be added to the description.
You can add pointers to additional information at the bottom of the project page – for example, selected stories, news reports, and internal or external organisations with which the project collaborates.
Editing a published research project page
Go to your project page and then log in at the top via Login > Edit. Then click on the “Edit page” button in the centre of the page.
Publish in Swedish and English
Feel free to create an English translation of the research project page. However, please note that English text may not be available on the Swedish part of the University’s website for accessibility reasons and vice versa. Exceptions can be made for headings. Read more about digital accessibility on Aktum (UMU ID required).
If you only have English information about the project, the recommendation is that you create a Swedish equivalent with a Swedish heading and the text: “Mer information om det här forskningsprojektet hittar du om du växlar till engelska genom English site i det övre högra hörnet på sidan.”
When not to use a research project page
Note that you need to use different page types for research groups and research infrastructures. This allows presenting the research content in a structured and useful way on the University’s central research website.
